Welcome to the Timeline Project!
This is a project to make a timeline of historical fashion through modern re-creations/reproductions of the clothing of the past.

This is not intended to replace research into historical clothing. I aim for it to give a broad sweeping picture that can give general ideas of fashion (ie. a starting point for picking a period), aid in an understanding of the evolution of fashion and as a place to gain inspiration.

I aim to have this be a resource of high quality, passing down ‘costume myths’ ‘Hollywood’s’ and other inaccuracies is not the goal here! For this reason, there are submitting guidelines that require references and documentation. Obviously I am not an expert on every historical period, so I will rely on feedback to help maintain this high standard. This will mean that pieces that were accepted previously may be removed, or removed pending further documentation.

I am in no way telling you how or to what level of accuracy you should make your historical garments, so if something is not accepted then it is simply because it doesn’t meet the requirements for this timeline, NOT because it was not good enough for its original purpose. An outfit may also be not accepted pending further documentation- this basically means I don’t know enough about the period to know on my own if a particular aspect is period or not, so I’m asking you to show me it is.
Another reason why your garment or outfit isn’t accepted is that perhaps we just have too many of that exact thing!
